School Description:
Illinois Institute of Technology is a private, Ph.D.-granting, research university, with world-renowned programs in engineering, architecture, the sciences, humanities, psychology, business, law, and design. Tracing its roots back to the 1890s, IIT brings a focused, interdisciplinary approach to education and pairs the educational and cultural experiences of Chicago with the small campus feel with an undergraduate population just over 2500.
IIT's unique Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) program is a core part of the curriculum that enables students from all academic disciplines to work as part of interdisciplinary teams solving real-world problems. The addition of the University Technology Park At IIT (UTP), an incubator for technology companies located on the Main Campus, and the university's access to more than 29 research facilities, amplifies IIT students' access to outstanding research opportunities. The Idea ShopTM, IIT’s newest 13,000 square foot facility located in UTP, is home to the IPRO program, and includes space for scientific computing and visualization, engineering graphics, mobile app development, team-based idea generation and communication, and a state-of-the-art machine shop filled with rapid-prototyping equipment. All of these opportunities lead to a 92% placement rate for IIT graduates.
